Infrared Saunas in London
An infrared sauna heats you directly rather than heating the air around you, so the cabin sits somewhere around 45–60°C instead of the 80–100°C of a traditional Finnish room. The result is a gentler, drier session you can usually sit through for longer, which is why infrared has become the entry point for people who find a conventional sauna too intense. London's infrared venues split into two camps. 81 of them are independent studios and recovery clinics, where the cabin is the reason you book and sessions are typically private, 30 to 45 minutes, for one or two people. The rest are gyms, spas and health clubs where an infrared cabin sits alongside the changing rooms as one facility among many. The independents cluster in the outer boroughs — Richmond, Barnet, Hadley Wood — while the gym-attached cabins follow the chains into central London.
Expect to book a slot rather than drop in: most infrared cabins take one or two people at a time, so walk-ins are rarer than with a communal sauna.
